AI for Developing Nations — Data Governance & Digital Sovereignty
We’re proud to be contributing to global conversations on the future of AI governance, data stewardship, and digital sovereignty through our involvement with the United Nations hosted, AI for Developing Nations Forum (AIFOD).
AIFOD is pioneering work that puts developing nations at the centre of designing new norms for AI and data systems. Their initiatives are grounded in principles of Ubuntu and Global South value systems — shifting the focus from purely market-centric adoption to models that uphold community empowerment, cultural preservation, and intergenerational wellbeing.
As part of this mahi, our founder serves as a delegate on the AIFOD Standards Committee. This international body is developing the world’s first community-centric AI governance certification framework — the FAIR (Future AI Investment Responsibility) standards. The committee’s work is structured around four core pillars:
1. Respectful Entry: cultural impact assessments and meaningful community consultation.
2. Shared Development: building local capacity and transparent benefit-sharing.
3. Data Stewardship: ensuring community-led governance of data assets and protecting digital sovereignty.
4. Sustainable Impact: embedding robust social, environmental, and economic measures into AI deployment.
Through this collaboration, we’re helping shape global standards that will influence AI investment and practice across billions of lives; ensuring technology systems aren’t just smarter, but genuinely fairer and more accountable.
It’s all part of our commitment to stewarding better systems, from boardroom to blueprint, shaping what’s possible - with you.
